How to measure
Measure the bed rather than the whole yard. Break curved beds into small rectangles for a practical estimate.
How the estimate works
Length × width × depth in inches ÷ 12. Add allowance; divide by bag volume and round up.
A worked example
A 12 × 8 ft bed at 3 in deep needs 24 cubic feet. With 10% allowance, buy 14 bags of 2 cubic feet.
Before you buy
Depth is your chosen finished layer. Keep mulch clear of trunks and check product guidance. Default values are illustrative starting points. Check the label and adjust them to your product.
